The Reed — Woven Brass Buckle Belt 1.2"
Strips of leather are hand-braided before The Reed ever gets assembled — a slower process than cutting one strap, but it's what gives this one its texture. The brass buckle stays fixed in place, so there's no punch tool involved here; just pick the size that matches your waist.
Specs
- Material: Full-grain leather, hand-braided (not a single cut strap)
- Width: 1.2" (3.0cm)
- Thickness: 3mm — thinner than our standard belts, a result of the braided construction
- Buckle: Solid brass, fixed in place (not removable)
Why It's Built to Last
- Hand-braided construction spreads everyday stress across many strands instead of one strip
- Full-grain leather ages into a deeper patina with wear, rather than cracking
- The brass buckle is securely fixed, so there's nothing to work loose over time
- No stitching along the braid to fray or come undone
Built For
A textured alternative to a plain strap — dresses, jeans, or anything that could use a bit more visual interest at the waist.
Full-Grain Leather vs. Other "Leather" Belts
| Saddlebelt Full-Grain | Other "Leather" Belts | |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | ✓ Hand-braided from full-grain strips | Bonded scraps, reduced fiber strength |
| Patina Over Time | ✓ Develops a rich patina with wear | Coating cracks or peels instead |
| Withstands Daily Wear | ✓ No peeling, cracking, or delamination | Often fails within months |
| Buckle | ✓ Solid brass, securely fixed in place | Thin plated metal, prone to tarnishing |
| Price | ✓ Costs less over time than replacing a cheap belt every year | Cheap up front, but you'll buy it again and again |
Sizing — Please Read Before Ordering
This belt is sold by waist range — each size covers a 2-inch span (for example, size 33"-34" fits waists measuring 33 to 34 inches). The Reed has a fixed brass buckle and pre-set holes, so there's no punch tool and nothing to remove — just pick the range that matches your waist.
Available in Waist 31"-32" through 37"-38". For general belt-sizing help, see our Belt Sizing Guide — note that this product uses the waist-range system above rather than the fixed-length method described there.
Care Instructions
- Dust settles into the braid crevices more than on a flat strap — a soft brush or cloth after wear keeps it from building up.
- Work leather balm in sparingly every couple of months, getting into the woven texture, then buff off the excess.
- If it gets wet, let it air-dry fully before wearing again — the braided strands can hold moisture longer than a solid strap.
- Expect the color to mellow slightly with wear; that's the natural patina of full-grain leather.
