The Marshal — Vintage Belt with Brass Plaque Buckle 1.3"
Most belt buckles are an afterthought — a bent piece of metal doing a job. The Marshal's isn't. It's a solid brass plaque, smooth and unbroken, with the fastening pin hidden underneath instead of sticking out front. From the outside it just reads as one clean slab of brass.
Underneath that plaque is the same standard we build every belt to: a single 4.5mm-thick piece of full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, flat-cut with no stitching. Minimalist by design, substantial by feel.
It still works exactly like a belt should — the pin behind the plaque catches your usual holes — it just doesn't look like it from the front.
Specs
- Material: Full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather (single piece, 4.5mm thick)
- Width: 1.3" (3.3cm)
- Buckle: Solid brass plaque, pin-fastened underneath, removable
- Edge: Flat-cut, no stitching, minimalist look
- Includes: Punch tool for custom hole adjustment
Why It's Built to Last
- Single 4.5mm-thick piece of full-grain leather — noticeably heavier than our standard 4mm belts
- Vegetable-tanned finish develops a deeper patina with wear instead of cracking
- Solid brass plaque buckle is screw-fastened, not riveted — replaceable if it ever wears out
- Flat-cut edge with no stitching means nothing to fray or unravel
- Ships with a punch tool so your fit stays precise for years, not just on day one
Built For
Anyone who wants their belt to read as one clean line rather than a strap-and-buckle combination. Works equally well under a sweater with the buckle barely showing, or on its own as the quiet, deliberate detail in an otherwise simple outfit.
Full-Grain Leather vs. Other "Leather" Belts
| Saddlebelt Full-Grain | Other "Leather" Belts | |
|---|---|---|
| Grain Strength | ✓ Single piece, full-grain hide | Bonded scraps, reduced fiber strength |
| Patina Over Time | ✓ Develops a rich patina with wear | Coating cracks or peels instead |
| Withstands Daily Wear | ✓ No peeling, cracking, or delamination | Often fails within months |
| Buckle | ✓ Solid brass plaque, pin-fastened & replaceable | Riveted, can't be replaced if it fails |
| Price | ✓ Costs less over time than replacing a cheap belt every year | Cheap up front, but you'll buy it again and again |
Sizing — Please Read Before Ordering
This belt is sold by waist range, not a single fixed length — each size covers a 2-inch span (for example, size 33"-34" fits waists measuring 33 to 34 inches). Every belt ships with a punch tool, so you can trim the tip and add a new hole to fine-tune the fit within your range.
For general belt-sizing help (measuring an existing belt, jeans-size conversion), see our Belt Sizing Guide — note that this product uses the waist-range system above rather than the fixed-length method described there.
How to Adjust Your Belt Length
Each belt comes with a punch tool, so you can easily remove the buckle and adjust the length to fit your waist perfectly.
- Remove the screw and take off the plaque buckle.
- Slide off the tip keeper loop to expose the leather underneath.
- Cut off the excess length from the tip end.
- Use the punch tool to add a new hole where needed.
- Reattach the buckle with the screw and tighten — done.
Care Instructions
- Wipe down with a soft, dry cloth after each wear to remove dust and surface oils.
- Every 2 to 3 months, work in a small amount of natural leather balm with a clean cloth, let it absorb for a few minutes, then buff off any excess.
- If the belt gets wet, blot it dry and let it air-dry away from direct heat — never use a hairdryer or radiator, which can shrink the leather.
- The brass plaque will darken slightly with handling over time — a light metal polish restores the shine if you want it, but the muted look is part of the design.
